The Story Forge

From imagination to the page.

“What if a single photograph could become a whole new world?

Overview

Every great writer starts with a spark. In The Story Forge, children learn to catch their ideas and shape them into clear, well-structured writing. Together, we explore the building blocks of every good story — characters, settings and flow — through playful prompts, pictures, objects and plenty of encouragement. This is the perfect first step for children who love to imagine but are not yet sure how to get their ideas onto the page, as well as for those who simply want to enjoy writing more.

Your Child's Journey

Each module builds directly on the previous one to turn fundamental skills into lasting confidence and mastery.

Weeks 1–4

Imagination to Words

Children generate ideas from pictures, objects and their senses, learn to build strong sentences, and discover the difference between narrative writing (telling a story) and descriptive writing (painting a picture with words).

What Happens / Deliverable:
Sensory Idea Journal & Strong Sentences
Weeks 5–8

Meet the Characters

Children create characters from the outside in — their looks, actions and speech — and from the inside out — what they want and what they fear. They explore short stories to see how characters drive the plot.

What Happens / Deliverable:
Complete Character Dossier & Narrative Scene
Weeks 9–12

Worlds & Story Flow

Children observe nature and real places to build vivid settings, shape their stories with a clear beginning, middle and end, and finally write and share a complete short story.

What Happens / Deliverable:
Complete Short Story Showcase
Verified Progression

By the end of The Story Forge, your child will be able to:

Plan and write a short story with a clear beginning, middle and end
Write a descriptive paragraph using all five senses
Create a believable character with a name, a goal and a personality
Describe a setting drawn from real-life observation
Explain how a published short story moves from one part to the next
